County adjusts Steady Work program after $3M funding reduction, seeks internship pathways

Jay Roscup told the committee Wayne County has managed a $3 million funding reduction that required adjustments to the Steady Work Program. He said Community Schools, which previously supported much of the program, can no longer meet all needs, and the county is looking for alternative ways to sustain opportunities for youth and job pathways.
As part of those efforts, Roscup said the Department of Social Services is exploring onboarding internships through its department to give young people structured work experiences. The committee also approved a contract with Wayne County Community Schools’ Steady Work Program and Finger Lakes Community Action to support these efforts, with funding identified from a Federal Health Bill Grant and a Construction Grant and "no cost to the county."
