Extension reports shift to digital programming, plans field trips and IPM workshops

Josh Bowman, Agriculture Economic Development Educator, told the Wayne County Economic Development & Planning Committee on April 8 that Cornell Cooperative Extension agriculture programming has moved toward digital enrollment for 2026, with 25% of participants registering online and another 25% using a fillable PDF on the office website. He said the change has significantly reduced mailing and printing costs compared with the prior year.
Bowman said the extension engaged more than 150 community members and farmers in 2025 and has reached 40 people so far in 2026, including six on-site farm visits. He outlined upcoming activities including field trips for an AP Environmental Science class and a homeschool cooperative, and a summer workshop series titled "IPM for Beginners" to introduce integrated pest management terminology and practices to new farmers.
