Eagle Point resident urges limits on wildfire sightseers

Scott Walter of Eagle Point raised a safety concern during the Board of Commissioners’ non-agenda public comment period on July 15, saying citizens traveling to wildfire sites to view the event pose risks to themselves and responders. The comment was entered during the meeting opened by Commissioner Rick Dyer in the Courthouse Auditorium.
Senior Deputy County Administrator Joel Benton described how county and law-enforcement partners respond, saying "the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is working overtime to ensure that people are not entering affected areas unnecessarily." Benton added that additional resources are in place to block roads as needed to protect the public and first responders. The board did not take formal action on the comment but recorded it as part of public input on wildfire safety.
