District staff told the board they intend to submit an application for the Oregon Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, with the state’s submission deadline of June 30. Dr. Collins outlined that the grant is a multi-year effort—five years of funding spread over four years—and would expand programming from preschool through grade 12, including purchases for required pre-K assessments and support for Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT).
Dr. Collins noted the district has been working quickly with teachers and coaches to ready the application and that the state ranked Gresham-Barlow as number 13 on a list from most in need to least in need. "This grant came out in May, and the state set the due date for the grant as June 30th," Dr. Collins said. The board approved motion 119 authorizing submission of the application on a 4-0 vote.
The minutes describe required components such as family and community partnerships and pre-K assessment purchases; they do not record the requested dollar amount in the packet.
