Bonner County’s solid waste enterprise projects a large gap between revenues and expenses for the coming fiscal year, county staff told commissioners during a budget workshop. "Their revenue projection is about $756,000 less than their projected expenses for next year," Jessica said, adding the fund currently has money in the bank but cautioning against repeatedly covering operational deficits from reserves.
Staff urged the board to consider proposed sticker fees and a special-use fee when evaluating longer-term sustainability. Commissioners discussed the temptation to use fund balance in the near term while noting that relying on reserves for multiple years would be imprudent and could force future reductions or fee increases.
