Board authorizes hiring to fill loader operator vacancy and pre-approves future openings
Polk County approved filling a vacant loader operator/waste combustor operator position and authorized county staff to fill similar openings in the future without returning to the board, to address ongoing staffing shortages in rotating-shift positions.

A public-works official reported that a loader operator (who also holds a waste combustor operator license) resigned. The official explained that the license takes several years to obtain and rotating shifts leave the department short-staffed when vacancies arise.
