The utility representative provided technical context for the project, saying the system currently brings a 69,000-volt transmission feed into the area, steps it down to 25,000 volts at a substation and distributes power radially across the valley. The company described a plan to add an additional 3-phase feed within town so loads can be balanced across phases and a single outage would affect a smaller share of customers.
"I take 69,000 volts from a transmission line ... and I had [a] substation that I built last year ... and we've been putting a new substation where we convert that 69,000 volts down to 25,000 volts," the utility representative said while outlining the system topology. The representative said that a potential additional substation on nearby BLM property is being scoped but remains several years away, dependent on permits, funding and engineering.
