Developer seeks council consensus on Clinton Inn redevelopment

Developers told the Mayor and Council on Feb. 10 that they now plan to demolish the existing Clinton Inn and replace it with a single mixed-use building anchored by a 200-room hotel and a 95-unit apartment component. Conrad Roncati, the presenter, said the team had reduced apartment counts since the prior proposal and aims to include a ground-floor market, event space and some publicly accessible green space.
"So our plan is to redevelop the property with the hotel and then the 3 vacant parcels to this town," Roncati said during the presentation. Council members pressed the developer on parking, flood mitigation, unit mix and possible future conversion of hotel space to residential use. The mayor clarified the council was not voting on final approvals; instead members were asked whether they supported advancing further study, planning-board review and a public hearing if the redevelopment plan is pursued.
