Comal County Commissioners on Oct. 30 approved three related items requested by the sheriff’s office: purchase of two eight‑bank chargers for body‑worn cameras, a line‑item transfer to buy two patrol‑unit camera systems and a transfer to purchase paper citation books and narcotics test kits.
Captain Smith said the chargers will keep cameras and batteries ready for long events (for example Wurstfest and fairgrounds) and that the patrol‑unit camera systems are intended for criminal‑interdiction work, including investigations into trafficking and narcotics. "These will assist us in finding and targeting things like human trafficking, fentanyl and other narcotics, and wanted persons," Captain Smith said. The court approved each item by voice vote; staff said the charger purchase uses unspent non‑capital funds and no budget amendment was required for that purchase.
The transfer for citation books covers paper backups in case electronic ticketing is unavailable and the narcotics test kits are to differentiate legal hemp/CBD products from prohibited marijuana and vape cartridges.
