Supervisors weigh mowing schedule changes and algae treatment proposals

Supervisor Michael Walsh asked staff to adjust timing and frequency of grass cutting in selected retention areas where grass grows long May–October; District Manager Adams will solicit a proposal for algae treatment on Ponds 7, 5 and 11 from a contractor with prior success.
Supervisors discussed adjustments to grounds maintenance and water-quality treatment during the Sept. 17 meeting.
Supervisor Michael Walsh said he had spoken with Grounds Superintendent Tim Gatz about changing the timing and frequency of cutting grass in selected retention areas adjacent to the golf course, citing areas such as Hole 8 where grass can grow to knee height. The board agreed such accommodations should be kept to a minimum because shifting resources from one area can affect others.
Herb Hurley and District Manager Chuck Adams described algae problems on Ponds 7, 5 and 11 and Adams said he will request a proposal from another contractor that has successfully treated similar irrigation holding ponds in the area.
