Owen Heron, who identified himself as a lifelong Norton resident and principal of Acceleration Engineering, presented a proposal to take part of the former Reed & Barton property at 47 Elm Street for an R&D and test facility. Heron said remediation work has already been performed on parts of the site, referenced a 2022 Phase II environmental report, and proposed two roughly 60‑by‑50‑foot buildings on a currently cleared/gravel area with a focus on segregating test operations from machining.
Board members questioned ownership, remediation status, sewer and the town’s planned water‑main construction; Heron said he has discussed preliminary perk tests with the fire department and that the firm could use above‑ground solutions if subsurface septic were restricted. “We probably in the partest, the toughest part of our evolution as a business has been trying to find a new home,” Heron said, adding he hopes to return with a special‑permit application by the September 15 meeting.
