Sheriff Clark Mellick reported to the board that judges and the Clerk of Court have raised the need for dedicated courthouse security and bailiff services on the third floor where courtrooms are used.
Mellick said there is a part-time line in the sheriff's budget with about $10,000 available, that a uniform would be provided, a vehicle would not be required, and that some training would be needed. Clerk of Court Benita Gossman spoke in favor of having someone always present to improve staff safety. Mellick said he will return next week with estimated budget dollars for the proposed position; no formal motion was taken at this meeting.
