Sheriff's office authorized to apply for traffic safety and SC AAP grants

The commission authorized the sheriff's office to submit a $22,000 traffic-safety grant application (25% in-kind match) and to apply for the federal State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SC AAP) to seek reimbursement for eligible correctional salary costs.

The board authorized two grant applications from the Elko County Sheriff's Office. First, the commission approved submittal of an application to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, for a $22,000 grant intended to reduce deaths and serious injuries related to motor vehicle crashes. Sergeant Mathis said the funding would support the equivalent of "about 360 extra man hours that are 100% traffic focused," with the 25% match provided in-kind by the department (vehicle hours and fuel).
