Council Member Oachs moved to adopt the ordinance and Council Member Steiner seconded; the roll call showed Oachs, Peterson, Whitlock, Steiner and Mayor Carlson voting aye, with no nays. The ordinance was described as intended to help "compartmentalize fire" by changing construction requirements and adding an inspection check to the department's existing I & I compliance process.
City staff did not specify an effective date in the meeting record. The council did not indicate any amendments to the ordinance during the adoption motion; implementation will proceed through the building-inspection process outlined by staff.
