BLM reports event permits, recreation work and fiber‑optic progress in Elko County

Brady Owens, speaking for the Bureau of Land Management, briefed the commission on several ongoing projects and public events tied to BLM lands in Elko County. Owens said the office is moving forward on major projects, including baseline work on the SWIP North transmission line, and is renewing outfitter and guide permits administered out of Elko for use statewide.
Owens listed several event permits under review or in process — a motorcycle club race later this summer, the annual Bonneville off‑road race (application submitted), Elko Trail Fest with the Elko Convention and Visitors Bureau and Nevada Off Road Racing Association, and the Casino Cup free‑flight competition south of Wendover. He also said fiber‑optic contractor Zedo is advancing work on about 210 permitted miles and that staffing shortages, including limited biologists, are affecting timing for some field work.
