Howell board unanimously ratifies HESPA tentative agreement

The Howell Public Schools Board of Education voted 7-0 on Sept. 29, 2025, to ratify the Howell Educational Support Personnel Association (HESPA) collective bargaining tentative agreement, as presented in Exhibit A.
The motion to ratify was made by Secretary Ms. Marhofer and supported by Vice-President Ms. Conn. The board recorded the motion as: "Moved by Ms. Marhofer, supported by Ms. Conn that the board ratify the Howell Educational Support Personnel Association (HESP A) Collective Bargaining Tentative Agreement, as per Exhibit A of the official board minutes." The vote was recorded as unanimous: Tarara, Pasini, Marhofer, Conn, Bedford, Dault and Zurek voted yes.
After the vote, Jill Deurloo, identified in the meeting as HESPA president, addressed the board to thank the district and bargaining team. According to the meeting record, Deurloo "expressed their gratitude for the approval of the new collective bargaining agreement" and thanked the district for recognizing the role HESPA members play in student success.
The ratification followed a closed-session discussion earlier in the meeting under Section 8(c) of the Open Meetings Act about negotiation strategies related to collective bargaining. The board entered closed session at 6:03 p.m. and reconvened at 6:33 p.m.
