One district administrator said the district encourages "all students to take English 12 here at Geneseo unless there is a scheduling issue," emphasizing that the in-district English 12 course provides a common senior-year experience with college-essay preparation, resume work and other activities. Several trustees said they supported keeping the course in-house as a default while allowing exceptions for extenuating circumstances; others urged being more transparent so families know the BOCES option exists. Board members asked Craig (district staff) to gather numbers on how many students currently seek embedded credits, and to prepare communication materials so families understand available options.
Next steps: staff will determine the magnitude of demand for embedded credits, review current practices and return with recommended procedures and communications to ensure choices are clear to students and families.
