Health department staff briefed the board on a proposed federal bill they said contains provisions that could reduce Medicaid funding or eligibility and that those changes could have downstream effects on county services and local hospitals. The director summarized statistics presented to the board — including earlier estimates that as many as 60,000–80,000 people statewide could lose benefits that were later discussed as a narrower estimate of around 63,000 — and observed that an estimated 5,800 people could be affected in some local breakdowns cited in the presentation.
