Joey Ritz, a mosquito-control contractor who said he works with several area counties, told the Vernon County board that his teams map city streets and inspect streams, alleys and artificial containers — most commonly tires — to reduce mosquito habitat. "Looks like we've found, 99 places that we stopped for, last year," he said, and reported that about 70% of those sites were addressed by the end of the season on follow-up visits.
Ritz said container-breeding mosquitoes are the ones most likely to carry disease and that his outreach focuses on talking with residents and business owners to remove or cover standing water. He told the board the pesticides he uses are targeted to mosquitoes and described annual paperwork and licensing requirements in the off season. He said he will recheck sites and provide a written progress report after his September follow-up.
