In a presentation on private-well testing and environmental health, the director said the county conducted 74 nitrate tests and that "only 2 of those samples exceeded the maximum allowable level, which is 10 milligrams per liter." She advised private-well owners to contact well professionals for mitigation options and noted limited ARPA funding for nitrate mitigation.
The director also updated the board on the DAWS collaborative project with land-and-water agencies in Vernon County, saying the group has applied for significant federal funding and is considering partnerships with UW Stevens Point for data collection. She characterized plans as preliminary and said the department would discuss details at a future meeting.
