Residents press Steger board on school drop‑off safety and missing crosswalks

Longtime Steger resident and former school volunteer Angie Prokop told the board she is concerned about children crossing behind her house and that a planned east‑side drop‑off did not occur. She said there is no marked crosswalk by the alley and parents are using Butler Avenue and the alley to reach the school.
Police Chief Greg Smith explained, "We had a meeting at the beginning of the year just talking about switching pick up to the east side of the school. The problem is, the building was not set up that way. The front of the school you have double doors for security, you have to be buzzed in after the bell rings. They do not have that on the east side of the building, and the office that monitors the door is not on that side of the building." Chief Smith advised Prokop to bring further questions to the School Board; Village Administrator Seehausen said the Village will notify the Superintendent of the concerns raised.
