Board signals support for Choose Ottawa County workforce incentive application

Katie Vanderhoff of Choose Ottawa County described the NWK Workforce Incentive Program administered through the Innovation Center and funded by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. Vanderhoff said the grant would allow Choose Ottawa County to incentivize and recruit local jobs that pay at least $15.50 per hour and that, if approved, the county would hold the funds and the County Clerk would issue payments and 1099s.
Vanderhoff said Choose Ottawa County would determine which jobs to incentivize and how much to offer. The board expressed consensus to support submitting the application and to consider formal approval at the next commission meeting. Commissioner Carla Grund also shared local visioning meeting observations and community interest in facilities such as the Bennington Family Center, citing Choose Ottawa County’s role in obtaining prior grants.
