Porter County board approves 2027 PH&P budget with $5,000 increase

The Porter County Public Health Department board voted unanimously to approve the PH&P (public health and preparedness) budget for the 2027 fiscal year, a proposal staff said is $5,000 higher than the previous year and covers the July 1–June 30 funding period. Chair opened the motion and a roll call produced a unanimous approval.
Board members were told the preparedness contract and related state funding often lag. Agency staff said they will prepare a contract and backdate it when state dollars arrive so operations are not interrupted. "We will backdate the contract for them based on the state funding and put our contract together with the new 5,000," staff said during the meeting.
The motion to approve the PH&P budget was moved and seconded in open session and passed on a roll call. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 1 and confirmed implementation steps for the approved budget.
