Local nonprofits thank commissioners, describe programs and needs
Summary

Multiple nonprofit leaders addressed the board during the outside-agency portion of the budget workshop to describe how county support is used and to thank commissioners for continued funding.
At Hearthstone Gardens, Judy Lundy described two planned additions to the children's garden: "The 1st 1 is a caterpillar that's made with tires and then surrounded with flowers..." She also described a native-bee hotel intended to support pollinators and educational programming. Eric Musgrove, chairman of the Historical Commission, thanked the board for money to help museum repairs and introduced Nicholas Virgil from the City of Live Oak, who said the city's Community Redevelopment Agency plans to contribute about $25,000 for insulation and floor repairs at the museum.
Other speakers included Jimmy Shepherd of the McAlpin Community Club, who said funds would be used for building maintenance, and Jimmy A. Cherry of the Police Athletic League, who described youth programs and facility improvements at the Douglas Center. The Arc introduced new executive Lily Williams and said the agency serves dozens of county residents with developmental disabilities and relies on county support for homes, transportation and day services.
