Board approves Val Nova common-area landscaping, adds larger-tree condition

The City of Eagle Design Review Board approved a landscaping plan for Lot 36 in Val Nova Town Center and added a requirement for larger shade trees.
Dawn Leslie of Langbart Design Group described the phase‑one plan for Lot 36, saying, “Lot 36 is part of the new town center portion of Pump 1… we are working on what we call phase 1 of Lot 36. It's anticipated to be a 2 phase project.” Leslie outlined open-space corridors, trail connections to the Glencarra Wash corridor, additional street and bollard lighting, mailbox clusters and an entry monument.
Staff planner Barb Williams told the board the submittal was familiar and stood for questions. Board member Andrew Norton pressed for more shade in open play areas and asked the board to require larger trees. Norton said, “I have requested larger trees in the landscape areas… I would just ask that we write in 1 of the site specific conditions that a class 3 tree is incorporated into the open area, landscape areas.” The applicant agreed to consider adding larger trees where space allows.
The board moved and approved DR-2026-03 with the addition of a condition requiring Class 3 trees in open-area plantings; staff will review the revised planting schedule with one board member. The approval also adopts the minutes and findings on the consent agenda.
What happens next: the applicant will submit revised landscape plans showing the Class 3 trees and staff will confirm compliance during final review.
