County panel sets 10-acre threshold for certified survey maps

The presenter reported that most responses clustered between 10 and 15 acres and urged the group to balance accuracy, landowner cost and administrative workload.
Committee members debated practical implementation: how would a landowner know they met a 10-acre threshold without a survey; could a deed mistakenly create a parcel below the threshold; and what role should the register of deeds or township review play before recording? "Perhaps that would be something that we'd have to entertain going forward because we would be nervous about creating a deed that might not transfer," the Presenter said while outlining concerns about unintended consequences of recording without pre-checks.
A motion to adopt a 10-acre threshold was made and seconded; after a short, informal tally and some confusion about remote votes, the chair announced, "the tens have it." The meeting record shows members who preferred a 15-acre threshold but the motion passed as recorded.
The decision was procedural: it sets a filing threshold for which certified survey maps will be required. Members directed staff to continue outreach with township officials, register-of-deeds staff and title professionals to clarify how the new threshold would be implemented and how to handle deeds already recorded that create parcels below the threshold.
