Cascade School District #5’s Board of Directors voted unanimously Jan. 13 to approve two temporary staff recommendations and to advance and adopt a set of OSBA-proposed policy updates.
The board approved the administration’s recommendation to hire Curtis Clark as a temporary long-term substitute at COC and Robin VanAgtmael as a temporary school counselor at the high school. The motion to approve the new hires was moved by Ruth Stevens and seconded by Jon Remy Jr.; the minutes state the motion carried with all members voting yes. Later in the meeting the board approved the first reading of the April 2024 OSBA policy updates (a long list of policies in the packet) on a motion by Aaron Lee, seconded by Stevens, and subsequently approved second reading and adoption of the August 2023 OSBA policy updates on a motion by Stevens and seconded by Remy; both motions recorded unanimous votes.
The meeting minutes list the affected policies by code (examples include AC Nondiscrimination and Civil Rights; DJC Bidding Requirements; IGBAF Special Education - IEP; and policy series addressing immunizations, student welfare, and emergency procedures). The minutes say there was no discussion on the motions and each motion “carried; all voted yes.” The board asked that routine business and upcoming items — including a superintendent self-evaluation and bond planning — be scheduled for future agendas.
