Students at Cascade Opportunity Center urge more math support and separate classroom space

Principal of the Cascade Opportunity Center, Ms. Thompson, introduced Opportunity Center staff and students and described a Student Success Class moderated by Counselor Hinkle that the Board observed on Nov. 25. Students answered the class prompt, “What was your school experience before enrolling at the Opportunity Center?” and discussed how the Center’s structure differs from their prior schools.
Students told the Board they would like a dedicated math teacher and additional space for separate classrooms to reduce distraction. The Board asked staff to clarify the math coach FTE and how classrooms are organized; Mr. Dyer later confirmed that many Opportunity Center programs and staff are funded through the district's Integrated Plan/SIA. Administrators and the Board thanked students and staff for the presentation.
