District staff said cameras are mounted to show hallways, entrances and playgrounds, and that bathrooms, locker rooms and classrooms are excluded from surveillance. One board member asked whether the board should hold a closed session to discuss camera placement and security procedures more specifically; another suggested the administration provide visual floor maps showing camera fields of view.
Staff said camera refreshes are ongoing, typically on a five-year replacement cycle, and that decisions about adding coverage are made in consultation with building principals to address blind spots. "I'll give you an example at the high school — we added a camera to cover the entrance," facilities staff said, noting some additions were driven by vandalism incidents.
The board asked staff to bring coverage maps and to consider whether sensitive placement discussions should be handled in closed session to protect operational security details.
