Weimar ISD board certifies unopposed trustees, cancels May 3 election

At the meeting on Feb. 17, 2025, the board certified Steve Williams (Place 5), Joni VanHouten (Place 6) and Jeremy Maupin (Place 7) as unopposed. Jim Sanders moved the certification and April Mikulenka seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Later the board voted, on a motion by Joni VanHouten and second by Tom Strickland, to cancel the School Board Trustee Election scheduled for May 3, 2025 "since all candidates are unopposed." The board recorded unanimous approval for that cancellation.
The actions mean the certified candidates will assume or retain their places without an election on May 3. The minutes list Steve Williams as absent from the Feb. 17 meeting; the board noted the cancellation because no contested races will appear on the ballot.
