The Townsend Select Board on Aug. 5 appointed the town administrator as the municipality's procurement officer and designee for several administrative duties, including signatory authority for road closings and handling grievances. Sarah Logan made the motion to delegate these responsibilities to the town administrator; the motion was seconded and adopted by roll call.
Town staff said the change clarifies existing practice under the TA (town administrator) contract and the town charter. "It's within the confines of the TA role and the TA contract," the TA said during the discussion, asking the board to formally record the designation to make the official posting and signatory responsibilities clear. The board also directed that meeting notices continue to be posted on the town website's agenda/calendar page, as the official posting location under MGL chapter 30A, section 20.
