Board approves Redwood Elementary closure and boundary adjustments

The Granite School District Board of Education voted Dec. 10 to close Redwood Elementary and adjust boundaries to send students to Granger, Stansbury, and Wilson elementaries. Connie Burgess moved the action and the board recorded the motion as a second and final reading passed unanimously.
Kim Chandler acknowledged parents’ sustained advocacy at public meetings and said she supported the closure after considering all aspects of the proposal: "I appreciated the efforts of parents to speak out about this closure decision," she said, adding that receiving schools are "very excited to welcome" incoming students and that their cultures should adapt to include new students.
The board’s action included a specific change to make part of Redwood a feeder into Granger Elementary and to align that portion with Granite Park to Valley Junior High. District staff will follow up with boundary maps and family notifications as part of standard implementation steps.
