Committee reports on Aug. 5 included a summary of ARPA spending and next steps. Commissioners said the county used ARPA funds to pay down debt and fund capital projects and that roughly $1 million remains. The board agreed to hold that balance in the county treasury to continue earning interest and to draw on it for buildings-and-grounds needs as they arise.
Commissioners also briefed colleagues on a new state materials-management planning process under recent amendments to Michigan's Solid Waste Management Act; the county will prepare a plan consistent with the state's interim recycling targets and conduct township-level outreach and education before submittal. Board members discussed survey distribution and the need to provide concise explanatory materials to townships so they can respond usefully to the state's planning questionnaire.
