Comal County Commissioners Court approved a set of interlocal agreements and a fee‑waiver during the Jan. 29 meeting aimed at improving emergency coordination and accommodating state or neighboring jurisdictions’ operations.
The court approved an agreement allowing the City of New Braunfels to colocate its emergency management coordinator at the county’s Churchill facility; the judge said co‑location will "give us an advantage when it comes not only to responding to emergency events, but also in planning and preparing for them." The court also authorized space for Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens in county facilities and approved temporary use of space in the Churchill Annex by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to replace prior accommodations.
On a separate intergovernmental request, Hays County asked Comal to waive fire code permit fees for a Sentinel Peak Preserve welcome building whose entrance sits in Comal County. County staff estimated the building cost about $50,000 and said Comal’s permit fee would be approximately $1,600; Hays requested a full waiver. Staff confirmed that taxing entities normally receive a 50% reduction; Hays asked for a complete waiver and the court approved the request as an example of local governments working together.
