Committee authorizes quick application for mid-cycle state grants

The committee voted to authorize staff to proceed with applications for mid-cycle grants should opportunities arise. Daniel Hassett moved to give staff approval to apply for grants that open mid-cycle; he said the county should "definitely jump on them as soon as we can." Chris McCann seconded the motion and the committee approved it by voice vote.
Chair Cabness said the recent grant cycles sometimes open with short notice, and members agreed that pre-approval would allow staff to apply through county processes without waiting for a special meeting. The authorization covers operations, planning, training and equipment (OPTI), hazardous materials emergency-preparedness grants and other state emergency management funding as they become available.
