Staff reports planned Elko County code clarification and update on Don Knight appeal

County staff told the Planning Commission that a recent review of variance applications revealed conflicting language about when permits are required for structures placed close together. Staff said it identified the conflict, drafted proposed language to amend Elko County code, and will bring the language forward to the commission and the Board of County Commissioners for formal consideration.
A commissioner summarized the change: staff "did identify where the conflict in the language is and the way to remedy it," and a draft amendment has been submitted to county staff for finalization and scheduling. The goal, staff said, is to reduce repetitive variance requests for certain small accessory structures.
Separately, staff reported on the Don Knight appeal that had been continued earlier: the commission was told a boundary-line-adjustment application was received by the department and that the appeal will be revisited approximately six months after receipt of that application, consistent with prior direction to the commission.
