Elko County fire chief reports multiple recent fires, praises response

The Elko County fire chief told commissioners that the district responded to "a handful of structure fires in in the last 7 days" and to more than four wildland incidents in that same period, and that an accidental-equipment fire near Osino this morning was contained to "exactly an acre."
The chief said the Spring Creek Fire started late afternoon during a graduation and drew a multi-unit response: "we had 14 engines, 2 chief officers, 4 water tenders, 3 dozers, and 1 helicopter all within about the 30 to 45 minute mark." He emphasized the outcome: no homes were lost and only minimal damage to some outbuildings and vehicles. The chief also publicly thanked mutual-aid partners and volunteers and singled out Ruby Mountain Sand and Gravel for providing a water tender and filling district trucks on scene: "they stayed until that tank was empty."
Commissioners did not take formal action on the report. The chief said the fire district is continuing incident reviews and coordination with state and federal partners to refine response and resource staging in high-risk areas.
