Commissioners outline fire coordination, water concerns and local projects

Commissioner Jonathan Houck told the Board July 21 he has been coordinating with neighboring counties and local officials on the Gold Mountain and Elk fires and noted impacts including a Portal Road mudslide that affected campers. Houck also summarized recent work with the State Land Board and attendance at Colorado Water Conservation Board and Gunnison Basin Roundtable meetings, warning that Blue Mesa Reservoir could drop below power-pool operations.
Vice-Chair Elizabeth Smith reported discussions with City of Gunnison officials, including City Manager Amanda Wilson, on the Southwest Colorado Opioid Regional Council voting structure and work with the Gunnison Valley Regional Transportation Authority on transit center schematic review. Smith said she discussed the Road and Bridge ballot with local business leaders and may request discretionary funds for Welcoming Week events; she also described upcoming coordination on a Cheatgrass intergovernmental agreement and meetings related to early childhood education research questions.
No public comment was offered during the unscheduled public-comment period, and Vice-Chair Smith adjourned the meeting at 9:33 a.m.
