A WIC representative (identified in the minutes as DuCharme) briefed the Vernon County Board of Health on recent federal WIC rule changes. DuCharme said Phase 1 of a new federal rule took effect Oct. 6 and Phase 2 is expected in spring 2026.
In the context of a potential federal shutdown, DuCharme reported that WIC currently has about a 30-day reserve to cover food packages and salaries. She noted that ForwardHealth codes may provide adjunct eligibility for some families; if ForwardHealth codes do not qualify a family, program staff must report family income as part of eligibility determination.
The board acknowledged the update and set its next meeting for Nov. 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM; no additional action on WIC funding or eligibility was taken at the meeting.
