The Pine Tree ISD board on April 13 voted unanimously to take no action on a proposed amendment to a cell-tower lease with AT&T, leaving the current lease terms in place.
Board staff described the existing lease as beginning July 1, 2025 and running to June 30, 2030 for the current five-year term, under which the district receives $1,680 per month (totaling $100,800 over five years) with 12% escalation for subsequent five-year renewal terms. Staff presented three options: extend the agreement at a reduced monthly rate with successive renewal terms through 2060 and 10% escalations; accept a one-time lump sum payment of $242,000 in exchange for a perpetual easement that would give AT&T permanent rights to maintain equipment (which could interfere with future construction); or take no action and keep the current lease.
Frank Richards moved "to take no action and keep the current lease," and Melanie Roudkovski seconded. The motion passed, Yea: 5, Nay: 0.
