The full story

Clayton Scott, representing the USDA Conservation Service (via phone), briefed the council on the Elk Creek Watershed sponsorship opportunity. Scott said the watershed covers parts of Harrison, Barbour and Upshur counties and that these projects require a local sponsor. He told councilors the preliminary and planning phases are 100% funded by federal dollars and that implementation would have a 75/25 funding split, with the town covering 25% of implementation costs; the precise local dollar amount would not be known until after the planning phase.
