Trustees highlight student programs, facilities and community events

Several trustees used the communications portion of the Jan. 15 meeting to highlight district achievements and raise parent- and student-facing issues. Vice President Sherry Charles and Student Member Sandra Toledo both praised the Wonderful Program’s dual-enrollment pathway, noting it allows some students to earn two-year degrees while graduating from high school. Trustee Jose C. Zavala noted that staff presentations on Mendota’s program have attracted interest from larger districts.
Trustee Isabel Maldonado raised questions about the high prices of caps, gowns and photo packets for graduation and asked staff to look into purchasing items centrally or identifying a lower-cost vendor; Mr. Kirby said he would research options and report back. Trustee Sherry Charles suggested parents who can’t volunteer could donate items or money to support Sober Grad fundraising. President Salvador Ochoa thanked staff and community partners and praised the MYR Christmas parade participation.
