Consultants from McPherson & Jacobson walked the Pendleton School District 16R board through the superintendent finalist-selection timeline, interview structure and confidentiality rules.
Doug Nelson told members the firm recommends bringing six candidates for the board to review and select its top three at a Feb. 24 executive session; those three would be interviewed in an executive session on March 10. "The interview process is strictly confidential, and no one is allowed to share information outside of the executive session," Nelson said. Board members will be required to sign confidentiality agreements before materials are distributed, and the search firm will handle press releases and public announcements.
Consultants recommended tools to limit bias — including using a T-chart for each candidate with "what you liked" and "what made you pause" — and advised that each finalist interview should last about 90 minutes and include time for clarifying questions. Interview forms will be collected and retained by the firm for five years.
