Board approves multiple student trips including UTSA program and Showmakers contests

Trustees approved travel for UTSA Spanish Minor Program students to San Antonio on Feb. 15, 2025, and high school and junior high dance teams to the Showmakers State Contest Feb. 28–March 1, 2025.
The board approved several student travel requests recommended by administration at the Jan. 28 special meeting. Approved trips include UTSA Spanish Minor Program students traveling to UTSA’s San Antonio campus on Feb. 15, 2025, and the Valley View high school and junior high dance teams attending the Showmakers of America State Contest in San Marcos, Feb. 28–March 1, 2025.
Jesus Garza, Valley View High School principal, and Manuel Rodriguez, fine arts director, presented the requests. Trustee Juan Viveros moved to approve the student trips and Jaime Gaona seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The approvals allow participating students to travel under district authorization; the board did not discuss funding sources for the trips at the meeting.
