Task force discusses intersection upgrades, camera-based signal timing and expanded problem list

Transportation was a major focus of the meeting: staff presented a condensed transportation section and a draft glossary, and members discussed which intersections to prioritize and how to fund signal and intersection improvements.

Staff emphasized consolidation and examples for terms such as traffic calming and gateway improvements to make recommendations actionable. Committee members asked that the list of four hotspots not be seen as exhaustive; staff offered to add wording such as “other problematic intersections” to preserve flexibility for future grant applications.

Participants also discussed camera-based detection or signal systems to improve traffic flow. The Chair noted a cost estimate for camera upgrades — "20 something thousand" — and several members suggested that pursuing grants and PennDOT coordination would be the next step for high-priority intersections on Route 322 and other corridors.
