Commission hears parking-study update, learns state law changed variance process

A staff member told the commission that the parking-study steering committee and consultants have produced a draft report based on on-the-ground surveys and that the work will feed zoning-code recommendations. "We have a draft report. But it was it's really interesting, and we will be sharing more with the commission," the staff member said.
On the topic of variance signs, a commissioner asked what the recent notices mean; the staff member explained that a change in state law changed the variance process and that the city has seen more dimensional or area-variance applications (requests to change numerical standards such as setbacks). Staff said those cases are heard by the Board of Adjustment.
