Commissioners emphasize cost control and transparency as law‑enforcement project advances

Commissioners used the Aug. 4 special meeting to underscore two consistent themes as the county begins procurement for a new law enforcement facility: fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Commissioner Bob Teunessen emphasized the importance of keeping construction costs down and said "considerable thought has gone into determining an appropriate amount to ask taxpayers to contribute toward a new law enforcement facility." Vice‑Chair David Hatfield said transparency is gained through knowledge and that "today's meeting was part of that process." Chair David Jackson reiterated that the meeting represented a first step and that the project's cost, size and scope have not yet been determined.
Commissioner Catherine Getty thanked colleagues and staff for the process used to evaluate candidates, and Commissioner Bruce Campbell said many outstanding questions will be answered as the project advances.
