IT proposes three-year VMware/VMR agreement to stabilize software costs

“I went back to them going, hey, how much is a 3 year agreement? Give me, like, we'll lock this in for 3 if you're gonna tell me 12000 dollars, I'll lock this in for 3 years,” John said. He said he planned to rework his budget to pay the three-year amount up front so the county would be paid through 2029 and avoid annual increases.
John noted the county has previously executed multiyear agreements with VMware prior to Broadcom’s acquisition; he said vendors are increasingly asking for upfront payment. The board did not vote on the contract during the meeting; John said he would adjust the current year's budget to cover the upfront payment if the board approves the contract in subsequent proceedings.
