Elko County commissioners on July 15 approved a three‑year agreement to obtain AI-generated live and archived closed captioning for public meetings. The contract includes 250 hours of captioning in the first year at a cost of $15,000; future annual charges will be adjusted based on actual hours used.
County staff said the technology will help meet evolving ADA requirements for local government meetings and noted Granicus (agenda spelled 'Grenicious' in the packet) can bill the county based on actual usage. Staff recommended the contract and the board approved it on a voice vote. The county will allow staff to review and edit automated captions after meetings to improve accuracy.
