The full story
Planning staff proposed specific standards for data centers as part of the zoning rewrite. Under the draft, data centers in industrial districts would be allowed only by special exception with minimum acreage (100 acres), significant buffers and setbacks (50-foot natural buffers, 500-foot setback from habitable structures), prohibition on septic/wells, closed-loop cooling, sound studies and a required decommissioning bond to restore a site after operations cease.
